Heritance Kandalama was once again recognized for environmental commitment by the US based ‘Leisure and Travel’ magazine as one of the Top 15 greens hotels in the world. In collaboration with Conservation International, the magazine developed a green hotel assessment questionnaire about water and energy conservation, the elimination of wastage, and supporting local habitants and communities. Heritance Kandalama is a flagship hotel of Aitken Spence hotels and the recipient of numerous international awards and recognitions.
Some of the global awards it has won for its environmental commitment and service excellence include: the first Green Globe 21 certified hotel in Asia (1999), the first hotel in the world to be awarded the prestigious Leeds green building certification (2000), the first hotel in Sri Lanka to receive the Gold PATA Green Leaf environmental award, the first hotel in the world to receive Thomson’s Gold award for environmental commitment, the PATWA International Green Tourism award in 200, the INTACH-SATTE heritage award in 2001 for the Indian subcontinent and Indian ocean region, the SAGA Good Food award in 2005, ISO 12001 environmental certification, the President’s environmental award in 2005, the Community Leaver award in 2005, and ISO 22000 HACCP certification. Heritance Kandalama was also the first Superbrand hotel in Sri Lanka.
