Aitken Spence Hotels celebrates the season with awards and festivities

Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings PLC was crowned the Gold Award Winner in the Hotel Companies Sector whilst Browns Beach Hotels PLC received a Certificate of Compliance at the recently held 55th Annual Report Awards 2019 organised by Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

The premier hospitality chain, renowned for its sustainability and eco-efforts, celebrated yet another global recognition with TUI awards; a recognition from German guests and auditors. Heritance Ahungalla (Sri Lanka) and Adaaran Select Meedhupparu (Maldives) were named ‘TUI Environmental Champions 2020’. Awarded by TUI Group, the world’s leading integrated tourism group operating in more than 100 destinations worldwide, this recognition celebrates outstanding performance in driving sustainable tourism.

The true test of sustainability, and resilience is the capacity to maintain operations amid adversity; to support people and local economies dependent on business continuity for their sustenance. These achievements are a tribute to the strength and endurance of its people.

Heritance Aarah Maldives emerged ‘Overall Champion’ within just few months of operations. Always a changemaker in the industry, Aitken Spence Hotels introduced LEED certified architecture to the Maldives with Heritance Aarah, the first LEED Gold certified resort in the Maldives. LEED buildings save energy, water, resources, generate less waste and support human health.

Aitken Spence’s Heritance hotels in Sri Lanka and Adaaran hotels in the Maldives remain Travelife Gold certified. Aitken Spence Hotels also received the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 16 of its hotels and resorts located across Sri Lanka, Maldives, Oman and India.

Aitken Spence Printing, Carbon Neutral for 7 Consecutive Years

Sri Lanka’s premier printing and packaging solutions provider Aitken Spence Printing, subsidiary of blue-chip conglomerate Aitken Spence PLC, offset their carbon footprint for the seventh consecutive year. The company was the first carbon neutral printing facility operator in South Asia. The Company also renewed its ISO 14064-1 certification for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission quantification, reporting and verification for the third year running reaffirming their commitment to quality and continual improvement.

Aitken Spence Printing was awarded the certifications by The Sustainable Future Group (SFG), Sri Lanka’s only verification and certification body accredited by the International Accreditation Forum to award ISO 14064 certification at both organisational and project levels. SFG is also the regional partner of Natural Capital Partners of the UK – the world’s leading provider of Carbon Offset Solutions and proprietor of the globally recognised CarbonNeutral® Certification.

The accreditation process involved an extensive analysis of the company’s GHG emissions and subsequent investment in a renewable energy project for registered carbon credits to offset their organisational carbon footprint. The ISO 14064-1 certification further included an additional internal audit of the company’s GHG Management and Reporting System.

Aitken Spence PLC Crowned Overall Winner at the ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards 2018

Leading blue-chip conglomerate Aitken Spence PLC was recently adjudged the ‘Overall Winner’ at the ACCA Sri Lanka Sustainability Reporting Awards 2018. ACCA Sri Lanka has felicitated Sri Lanka’s best sustainability reports for over 15 years.

In addition to receiving the most prestigious award of the event, Aitken Spence PLC was declared a Joint Winner in the ‘Conglomerates & Diversified Category’. The Sustainability Reporting Awards are held with the objective of recognising and rewarding organisations which report and disclose information on environmental and social performance, and to encourage corporate transparency, accountability and responsiveness to stakeholders.

With selections carried out by an eminent panel of judges, the ceremony acknowledged corporates for their efforts to raise awareness across a broad range of aspects dedicated to sustainable development. The Aitken Spence PLC annual report was evaluated, succeeding against ACCA’s main judging criteria of completeness, credibility and communication. Aitken Spence PLC was also the joint winner of the Conglomerates and Diversified category.

By aligning its sustainability strategy and reporting procedures with global best practices and benchmark such as the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, the 7 Women’s Empowerment Principles, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Reporting Initiative and the guidelines of the International Integrated Reporting Council, Aitken Spence PLC implemented a holistic approach to its sustainability commitments with a long-term perspective that is reflected in the triple bottom line.

Aitken Spence Hotels Bags Gold Once Again at the 50th CA Annual Report Awards

Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings PLC emerged victorious once again walking away with the Gold Award in the Hospitality Sector category at the prestigious of Chartered Accountants Annual Report Awards.

The golden jubilee of the annual report awards was held recently at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre. The competition which covers 22 sectors from small business categories such as NGOs, clubs, associations to large conglomerates had a total of 130 organisations submit their annual reports for the coveted awards this year.

The annual competition formulated to encourage transparency and accountability in financial reporting in the corporate sector recognizes companies which have demonstrated excellence in transparency, accountability and good governance via their annual reports. The evaluations were conducted under a stringent three stage system where the shortlisted reports were subjected to an industry expert panel review; the reports selected for the final stage were evaluated by a final panel of judge’s chaired the Central Bank Governor.
